Education Policy

Education has for its object the formation of character.
Herbert Spencer (1820 - 1903)

We are committed to supporting the attainment of each player’s athletic aspirations as well as the development of the whole person.  It is our philosophy that success in each area of one’s life supports all other areas. The Kingston Frontenacs is an organization committed to each player’s athletic and academic excellence.

Once settled into the team and the Kingston hockey world, the next stop is a meeting with the academic advisor at the player’s chosen school.  A timetable that both supports each player’s individual academic goals and accommodates the demands of an OHL season is established.  Throughout the year the advisor and the assistant coach constantly liase to monitor and support the academic performance of the players. As well, the advisor sets up a timetable for second semester that is compatible with the player’s home school in order to facilitate an easy return at the end of the season.  A successful and fulfilling athletic career requires a balance between player’s athletic commitments and their ability to use their status to serve their community and to be able to function well in everyday life.  We believe that our school environment puts in place the expectations and the supports to prepare the players to balance those various roles

Kingston is well known as a seat of education.  We are fortunate to enjoy a close relationship with both Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College - a relationship that definitely serves our players after they graduate from high school.  Each player has the opportunity to pursue their post secondary education on campus while continuing to commit to both the team and their personal athletic aspirations.  We recognize our responsibility to act on this unique opportunity and work with each player in meeting their post secondary goals.

Our commitment to education cannot be overstated.  Team players need an education and we have an obligation to the players, to the parents who have entrusted their sons to us, and  to our community to provide the best environment possible for our athletes to succeed.
