Frontenacs To Honour Billet Families Prior to the Game
The Kingston Frontenacs jumped out to a huge 4-0 lead in the first 21 minutes of the game and then held on, as the Peterborough Petes came storming back to make it a game, but a late second period goal by Derek Froats preserved a 5-4 win for the Fronts. “Well we came out flying and really pushed the pace in the first period and then we got complacent and let them take the play to us the last half of the game,” said Head Coach Doug Gilmour.
The Fronts got their offense from some unfamiliar sources in the first period, as Charles Sarault scored his third of the season tapping in a nice pass off a face-off from Corey Durocher. Then exactly two minutes later, sophomore Tyler Mort notched his first career OHL goal, by jumping in the rush and slipping a backhander past Petes goaltender Jason Missiaen. “It was an awesome feeling for sure to finally get that monkey off my back, but the most important thing is that our team got the win and winning this time of year is the most important thing,” said Mort. Sarault scored his second of the period just over five minutes later snapping a shot past Missiaen and the Fronts had built up a big 3-0 lead after the opening period.
Captain Brian Lashoff scored a short-handed marker just 53 seconds into the second period on a rocket of a slap shot to give the Fronts a 4-0 lead, but that’s when things started to go south for the Black and Gold. Justin Larson, Pat Daley, Christopher Breen scored in the next twelve minutes to cut the lead down to jus a goal. Froats scored the eventual game winner with three minutes to play in the second period, tapping one into an empty net after a beautfiul pass from Alain Quine left Missiaen lost in the net. Liam Heelis scored the loan goal of the third period, midway through to make things interesting, but the Petes couldn’t solve goaltender Tyler Beskorowany the rest of the way, as the Fronts took home their third win in their last four games, downing the Petes 5-4.
Kingston is right back in action on Friday night, when they host the Guelph Storm at 7:30PM from the K-Rock Centre.
