Fronts Get Bear-ied

The Kingston Frontenacs put fourth another frustrating loss, as the Oshawa Generals defeated the Fronts 5-2 on Teddy Bear Toss night in support of the Toy Drive and a game televised on Rogers Sportsnet. The Fronts had their chances and for a second straight home game, struggled to score goals. The turning point of the game, occurred early in the third period when Zach Harnden was robbed on a chance at the side of the Oshawa net and the Generals turned the puck right back up the ice and scored to take a 3-0 lead. Moments later the Generals scored again and with the Fronts still not on the scoreboard for a fifth straight period, the Kingston fans tossed their Teddy Bears onto the ice. “It was embarrassing to have that happen on our own ice and we have no one to blame but ourselves. We have to start looking in the mirror and find ways within to turn this thing around,” said Head Coach Doug Gilmour.

John Cullen started in goal for the Fronts and was solid through nearly 40 minutes of action as the only General to find the back of the net was Alain Berger, who scored early in the first and then again with 9 seconds left in the second period. Christian Thomas broke the Fronts back to make it 3-0 and Berger completed the hat-trick to bring out the Teddy Bears. After a delay to clean up all the bears, the Fronts quickly responded when Taylor Doherty’s point shot got through everyone including Generals goaltender Kevin Ballie and a few more bears came on the ice as a few die hard faithful held onto their bears in hopes the Fronts would score. Corey Durocher made things interesting when he scored with nine minutes to play, but Alex Dzielski tipped a point shot off a face-off that fooled Tyler Beskorowany, who replaced Cullen after the fourth Oshawa goal to complete the final 5-2 score.

The Fronts will catch a bus in the morning and travel to Owen Sound for a date with the Attack Saturday night and then head into Guelph for a Sunday afternoon affair with the Storm.
