Fronts Fight Back to Win in Overtime

The Kingston Frontenacs extended their longest winning streak in recent memory, as they battled back to score a big 3-2 overtime victory over the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors, the team with the second most points in the entire OHL. "It wasn't out best game but we found a way to come together in the third, dig a little bit deeper and find a way to win the game," said Head Coach Doug Gilmour.

The loss is the first one this season for the Majors when taking a lead into the third period, as the Fronts erased. 2-0 deficit, with a pair of third period goals by Ethan Werek and Derek Froats to force the game into overtime, where Werek riffled a rebound right under the crossbar beating Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi to give the Fronts their fourth straight victory.

The Fronts also continued their physical and rough ways, as Kaine Geldart, Erik Gudbranson and Tyler Mort dropped the gloves, giving the Fronts 17 fighting majors over the four game winning streak.Gudbranson landed a heavy duty haymaker in his fight, which was just another way the sophomore defenceman is helping to take charge and lead this Frontenacs team.

The Majors out-shot the Fronts 21-6, although there were some descrepancies with the shot totals, but it was the Majors with the loan goal as Devante Smith-Pelley scored a shot side goal past Fronts goaltender Tyler Beskorowany. William Wallin then scored late in the second period on a 2 on 1 rush and blasted a slap shot right off the post and in past Beskorowany.

The Fronts only mustered up 1r shots through two periods but they cranked it up in the third and out-shot the Majors 14-7 in the third.

Erik Gudbranson the fourth ranked prospect on the NHL Central Scouting report that came out earlier in the day, grabbed the Fronts by the collar and led the charge on the comeback. It was Gudbranson's point shot that was tipped in by Froats to get the Fronts on the bored. They originally gave the goal to Gudbranson but upon further review they credited Froats with the deflection. Werek scored to tie the game a few minutes later by putting home the initial shot from Tyler Mort. Late in the regulation time, the Fronts penalty kill came up with another big kill to force overtime.

In overtime it was the Fronts drawing a penalty on a 2 on 1 rush and and they would make no mistake in capitalizing as Brian Lashoff took the initial shot that was tipped in Front by Nathan Moon and Werek was able to jump on the rebound and snap it under the crossbar for the win.

The Fronts will look to make it five in a row on Friday night when they host the Kitchener Rangers at the K-Rock Centre at 7:30pm.
