Frontenacs complete trade with Peterborough Petes

KINGSTON ON – Kingston Frontenacs General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations Larry Mavety announced on Tuesday afternoon that the Frontenacs have acquired overage forward Zach Harnden from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for a third round draft pick (originally Plymouth’s) in the 2011 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

Harnden was the Petes first round selection, 16th overall, in the 2005 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.

In four seasons with the Petes, the 6.02, 205-pound Harnden recorded 51 goals, 54 assists and 105 points in 248 games.

He also adds a wealth of leadership experience to the Frontenacs line-up. “Harnden adds more experience to our team, more offence and some size,” Mavety told the Kingston Whig-Standard. “He’s a left shot who can play both sides”. In his rookie campaign, Harnden was a member of the Petes’ OHL Championship squad in 2005/06, which included a birth in the MasterCard Memorial Cup. Last season, he captained the Petes to a first round playoff matchup against the eventual Eastern Conference Champion Brampton Battalion.

The third round selection acquired by the Petes was originally obtained by the Frontenacs as part of the trade with the Plymouth Whalers on Monday that saw hometown native Kaine Geldart join the Frontenacs organization.
