Boston Bruins prospect Ryan Spooner, who plays for the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs, has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will not be able to attend Canada's national junior team evaluation camp that opens Saturday in Calgary.

Spooner, who has 14 goals and 18 assists in 27 games this season, was a strong candidate to earn a spot with the club at centre.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, no replacement for Spooner will be named.

There was a similar situation in 2008, when forward Nick Spaling was diagnosed with mononucleosis on the eve of camp.
