The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for December, 2011, which includes Spencer Turcotte of the Guelph Storm, Justin Kea of the Saginaw Spirit, Andrew Tessier of the Kingston Frontenacs, and Jordan Auld of the Brampton Battalion.

Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the Midwest division is Right Winger Spencer Turcotte of the Guelph Storm.  Turcotte, 17, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, is determined, goal-oriented and consistently strives to achieve his fullest potential academically.  His teachers describe him as hard working, bright and focused.  This well-spoken, respectful young man is carrying a full course load of grade 12 University prep courses and had a midterm average of 83%.  His strong academic achievement is a direct reflection of his attention to detail, his discipline and hard work.
 

West Division- The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the West division is Centre Justin Kea of the Saginaw Spirit.  Kea, 17, a native of Woodville, Ontario, currently attends Saginaw Heritage.  Even with the demands of a busy OHL schedule, Justin maintains high marks.  Justin has maintained a great balance between hockey and academics, and has a very good time management strategy in place to achieve his goals on and off ice.

 
East Division- The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the East division is Defenseman Andrew Tessier of the Kingston Frontenac’s.  Andrew, 17, a native of Blind River, Ontario, attends Holy Cross SS.  He has consistently achieved an average in high 80’s/low 90’s throughout the semester while carrying a full load of grade 12 University courses.  His teachers describe him as an exemplary student and a very fine young man.  Andrew’s strong work ethic, both at school and at the rink make him a great role model for his peers.
 
Central Division- The OHL Academic Player of the Month for December in the Central division is Defenseman Jordan Auld of the Brampton Battalion.  A 19-year-old native of Toronto, Ontario, he is currently majoring in Economics, at the University of Toronto where he currently maintains an 82 average.  Jordan has worked very hard to achieve his academic goals while guarding the blue line for the Battalion.  Jordan’s teachers are impressed by his work ethic and organizational skills, they wish him congratulations thus far and continued success both on and off the ice.

October – Anthony Cortellessa, Windsor Spitfires

Midwest Division:

November – Adam Pelech, Erie Otters
October – Chris Bigras, Owen Sound Attack

Central Division:
December - Jordan Auld, Brampton Battalion
November – Aaron Ekblad, Barrie Colts
October – Ryan Duhaime, Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors

East Division:
December – Andrew Tessier, Kingston Frontenacs
November – Michael Curtis, Belleville Bulls
October – Slater Koekkoek, Peterborough Petes
