Kingston Frontenac General Manager Doug Gilmour is pleased to introduce Mark Major to the organisation as the team’s newest Assistant Coach. He will join Head Coach Todd Gill and Darren Keily on the coaching staff.
“We feel Mark makes a great addition to our coaching staff,” said General Manager Doug Gilmour. “He has playing experience in both the OHL and the NHL under his belt and coaching experience with junior aged players with Amherstview. We believe he makes a great fit with the club.”
Major, who played 183 games in the OHL, was the North Bay Centennials first round selection in the 1987 OHL Priority Selection, 14th overall. He played with North Bay, the Kingston Raiders and Kingston Frontenacs. In 1988’s NHL Entry Draft, Major was selected in the 2nd round 25th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In November 1996, he made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs. In total Mark played 1149 professional games, with 285 goals, 584 points and 3578 minutes in penalties.
As Head Coach of the Amherstview Jr.C Jets in the Empire B Junior Hockey League, Major led the team to two league championships in four seasons with the Club.
Major will be on the ice for training camp that opens this Thursday, August 30th with veterans reporting.
The first exhibition game for the Black and Gold, brought to you by the Kingston Whig-Standard will be Friday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m, versus the Belleville Bulls. All tickets will be $10.00.
