Canada beat Denmark 6-1 in the opening game for both teams at the world under-18 championship on Thursday in the Czech Republic.

Kingston Frontenacs defenceman Warren Steele is playing defence for Canada, while Fronts coach Todd Gill is an assistant coach.

Canada returns to action on Saturday against Finland.

Meanwhile, Canada also faces Finland on Friday afternoon (3 p.m., TSN) in a semifinal at the world women's championship in Burlington, Vt.

Kingston-born forward Jayna Hefford and goaltender Genevieve Lacasse are on the Canadian roster.
