Canada bounced back after a loss to Finland to defeat the host Czech Republic 6-2 Monday in Brno at the world under-18 hockey championship.

Brendan Gaunce of the Belleville Bulls scored twice in a four-goal first period to start Team Canada off to the victory.

Kingston Frontenacs coach Todd Gill is an assistant coach for head coach Jesse Wallin. Frontenacs defenceman Warren Steele is on the Canadian squad.

The victory over the Czech Republic improved Canada’s record to 2-1 in pool play. Canada lost 4-2 to Finland Saturday. Steele picked up two minor penalties in that game.

Team Canada’s final pool game is Tuesday against Team USA, which has a 3-0 record and has not surrendered a goal. The game will decide first place in the pool with the winner going directly to the semifinal round.
