Jeff Sirkka was a steady physical defenceman who spent three seasons in Kingston, playing for the Canadians from 1985 to 1988. Sirkka played 157 games in Kingston scoring two goals and adding 27 points to go along with 321 penalty minutes. Srikka added an assist and 34 penalty minutes in 14 playoff games in 1986 and 1987. Sirkka was traded twice during the 1988-89 season, first from Kingston to North Bay and then from the Centennials to the Toronto Marlboros. In total, the Sudbury, Ontario native played in 198 career OHL games.
This was just the beginning of a long career in the minor pro leagues from 1989 until 2002, culminating in 1993-94 when he won the Calder Cup Championship as part of the Portland Pirates. Jeff also spent some time with the Chicago Blackhawks and in total played 214 career games in the American Hockey League in Maine, Binghamton, Rochester, Portland and Hershey. Sirkka also play several seasons in the International Hockey League (IHL) in Indianapolis, Denver, Orlando, Kansas City, Long Beach, Utah and Cincinnati. Jeff concluded his playing career playing two seasons in Coloardo in the WCHL and finally again in Cincinnati, which converted over to the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL)
Today Jeff Sirkka is a Police Officer/Motor Officer in the City of Westminster, A North Suburb of Denver Coloardo, where he has worked for the last six years. He lives in Westminster with his eleven year old daughter Shiloh.
“My greatest hockey memories are winning two championships back to back in Portland and Denver. We won the AHL’s Calder Cup in Portland and the IHL’s Turner Cup in Denver. Another memorable moment for me, was just making the Chicago Blackhawks as a 17th round selection,” said Sirkka.
“The best team I ever played on was the Denver Grizzlies in the IHL. Record 72 wins, 20 losses and 6 ties and later winning the Turner Cup with only two losses,” said Sirkka.
“My favorite coach was Butch Goring. He let us play the game on our own and we had fun of the ice. He knew the game really well and we grew a lot as a team,” said Sirkka.
