Steve Seftel

Steve Seftel led the Kingston Canadians in scoring during the 1987-88 season and in a three year OHL career, played in 162 games, all in a Kingston Canadians uniform and complied 64 goals and 102 assists for 166 career OHL points. He also played in 22 playoff games for the Canadians, adding three goals and 5 assists in the post-season. Seftel was rewarded for his strong play with the Canadians in 1986, when the Washington Capitals made him their second round selection (40th overall) in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Seftel played five seasons in the American Hockey League with Binghamton and Baltimore, where he scored 46 goals and 100 points in 219 career AHL games. In 1990-91, Seftel fulfilled his life-long dream, when the Capitals recalled him from Baltimore, where he played four games with the Capitals.

Today Steve Seftel is married with two sons and works in Cambridge, Ontario and enjoys coaching the “AAA” Waterloo Wolves minor hockey team as a side hobby. “Definitely being drafted by the Washington Capitals in the second round of the 1986 National Hockey League Draft is my favorite hockey memory. It was something that you always dreamed about as a kid and worked so hard to achieve and when it finally happened, it definitely lived up to the hype,” said Seftel.

“My favorite Kingston hockey memory would be when we upset the Oshawa Generals in the first round of the playoffs. It was great, because not a lot of people thought we could do it, but we battled hard together and found a way to get the job done.”

“The best team I ever played on was the 1991 Washington Capitals. It may have only been for four games, but the talent they had on that team was pretty impressive with the likes of Kevin Hatcher, Mike Ridley, Peter Bondra, Dino Ciccarelli, Dale Hunter and Al Iafrate to name a few.””My favorite all time coach is definitely Doug MacLean, when he coached me in Baltimore. He was just a great players coach,” said Seftel.

“I loved my three seasons playing in Kingston and the fans always treated me very well. Players really appreciate the support from the community, through the good times and the bad and I’m proud to have had them as my fans,” concluded, Seftel.
