Eric Himelfarb

Eric Himelfarb Head ShotEric Himelfarb only spent one season in Kingston, but it one of the more dominant seasons in Kingston franchise history, as Himelfarb scored 37 goals and a whopping 70 assists for 107 points in 67 games as a member of the Frontenacs. Himelfarb led the Frontenacs to the post-season, where he racked up four goals and four assists in the Fronts first round exit at the hands of the Barrie Colts. Himelfarb had a pretty storied OHL career with Kingston, Barrie and Sarnia, scoring 148 goals and 239 assists for 387 career points, including four straight 30 plus goal seasons.

Eric was a sixth round selection (171st Overall) of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and upon leaving Kingston after his overage season, he played four seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. In his four seasons in Grand Rapids, Eric scored 46 goals and 60 assists for 106 career points in 214 career AHL games.

Today Eric Himelfarb lives in Toronto during the summer with his girlfriend, but is still actively playing hockey in the Swiss Elite League and has been for the past three seasons. He is currently playing for Biel in the Swiss-A League and earlier this year attended the Florida Panthers NHL training camp. Himelfarb’s former Head Coach in Kingston Jim Hulton is currently an Assistant Coach with Florida.

“My greatest moment in hockey was being drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. Its every kid in Canada’s dream to play in the NHL and I was one of the lucky ones to actually get to hear my name called in an NHL Draft,” said Himelfarb. “My favorite Kingston hockey memory though, is scoring the overtime winner in Game Four of the playoffs against Barrie. We were down 3-0 in the series and it showed that we weren’t going to go down without a fight. Unfortunately we lost in the next game, but scoring that goal was a highlight of my time in Kingston.”

“The best team I ever played for Grand Rapids, the second year I was there (2004-05). We were a winning team and everyone on the team was just very close and we were a tight knit group,” said Himelfarb. “Jimmy Hulton was my favorite coach and just because he made it fun to come to the arena and you would always learn something new each day,” said Himelfarb.

“I really enjoyed my year in Kingston. The fan in the city were unbelievable and they really made my year there very special,” finished up Eric Himelfarb
