The Kingston Frontenacs

Eric Braff

Eric Braff played 259 regular season games in the Ontario Hockey League, all of them in a Frontenacs jersey and advanced to the playoffs during every one of his four seasons with the Fronts. In total, Braff played in 26 playoff games in his four seasons in Kingston and sits just two games behind Keli Corpse, David Ling, Mike Oliveira and Colin Chaulk on the franchise’s all-time playoff games played list. The Big 6’4 defenseman was a steady presence in his own end of the rink but also wasn’t afraid to chip in offensively, as he racked up 5 goals and 58 assists in his regular season career and added another six assists in playoffs. After leaving Kingston in 2001, Braff attended St. Francis Xavier University where he played in 107 CIAU games over four years, missing just one game in his CIAU career. After graduating in 2004-05, Eric played a season for the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL and spent two seasons playing  for the Basingstoke Bison of the British Elite Ice Hockey League.

Today Eric Braff lives in Ottaw, Ontario and is writing his thesis in preparation to get his masters in finance and will be playing hockey in Italy this season with HC Eppan. “My favorite hockey memory is definitely when we won the 2004 CIS National Championship with St. F-X. Anytime you can win a national championship in anything, it’s something that you never forget and will always look back on with fond memories,” said Braff.

“My most memorable Kingston hockey moment was actually when Brett Clouthier and Jon Erskine got into a fight in the penalty box at the Memorial Centre. It’s just one of things that you never ever forget,” joked Braff.

“I’m still playing hockey today in Europe and really enjoying myself and having fun doing it, which is also a bonus. I did have a try-out with the Los Angeles Kings, but that would be furthest I made it in the game.”

“The best team I ever played on was the 97/98 Frontenacs, because we had so many guys on that team that went on to play in the NHL. Matt Bradley, Mike Zigomanis, Matt Cooke, Chris Allen, Matt Elich, Jan Bulis and Kevin Grimes never played, but he was an NHL First Round Pick.” “We had a great coach in Mav that year here in Kingston too. He was most calm and polite coach I’ve ever played for and he’s definitely my favorite coach,” said Braff.

“I really enjoyed playing in Kingston. It was a great place to play and great fans to play in front of,” finished Braff.
