Frontenacs Visit St. Joseph/St.Mary's Catholic School

On Thursday, January 24, 2008 two members of the Kingston Frontenacs went to visit St. Joseph/St.Mary Catholic School to promote Literacy week in the elementary schools. Frontenacs assistant captain Peter Stevens and rookie Taylor Doherty were excellent ambassadors of the Frontenacs reading to the children. They read to two groups of students – grades 1-3 and grades 4 and 5. The children listened to the players read them a story and then got their autographs.

Vice Principal Tammy Hulton commented on the event by saying, “so often students look up to athletes with whom they have little connection. Many students have dreams of pursuing athletics at a higher level. It was so nice to meet a successful athlete who truly demonstrates responsible citizenship by giving of his time. When Peter Stevens and Taylor Doherty visited our school to read to our students during Literacy Week, they became people to admire on many levels. They shared their love of books and inspired many struggling readers. They demonstrated that academics and athletics are not mutually excusive pursuits.”
